This must be one of my most favorite commissions to date. Earlier this summer I was asked if I could make a dream catcher that was to be a gift and part of the baby shower for an expecting mother and her new child to come. A sketch of this dream catcher accompanied the request; I immediately said yes. What a beautiful thing to get to make and equally beautiful gift to give and to receive. Dream catchers are traditionally hung over sleeping children to protect them from bad dreams and evil spirits; I just loved this idea.
The process was collaborative between the mother-to-be, her friend, and I in choosing colorss and such. The intent of the dream catcher was to first be hung at the shower and eventually in the newborn's room. At the shower guests, who were instructed to bring personal tokens with them, added to the dream catcher to make it more personal and memorable.
We all couldn't be happier with how it turned out; I am now in the process of making one for my own room to protect me from those bad dreams and evil spirits.
